Sapper of humanitarian demining
"My dream is to make the world better and cleaner," says Oleksandr Hykalyuk, Senior Sapper at UDS.
Oleksandr graduated from the Bohdan Khmelnytskyi National Academy of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
He served in the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine (now the National Guard of Ukraine) for 15 years, retiring in 2012 with the rank of captain.
Like many UDS team sappers, he obtained his sapper's certificate at the Interregional Center for Humanitarian Demining of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
The sapper identifies attentiveness, caution, and inner calm as the most crucial skills.
"After the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, I decided to put my skills and abilities to good use, directing all my efforts towards the humanitarian demining of our country. Today, the sapper's profession is highly relevant, and there is much work ahead to cleanse our land from the dirt of war," shares Oleksandr.
Oleksandr is confident that after the inevitable victory, the sapper's profession will attain social significance.
