Educated as a mechanical engineer, Mykola is a businessman during peacetime.
With the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion, much like many Ukrainians, he underwent a profound transformation in both his life and life's work.
Henceforth, Mykola's calling is ensuring the safety of the civilian population in the liberated territories, leading one of the UDS humanitarian mechanized demining groups.
Having obtained certification at the Interregional Center for Humanitarian Demining and Rapid Response of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, Mykola emphasizes the drastic shift in focus brought about by the invasion.
"As a result of the full-scale invasion, my business lost relevance, while, conversely, the profession of a sapper gained paramount importance. My priorities have shifted," notes Mykola.
In his perspective, a sapper should adhere to three fundamental principles: safety, efficiency, and discipline.
"This war will undoubtedly conclude with our victory. However, the enemy is working to complicate our efforts, leaving our territories saturated with mines and ammunition. Unfortunately, the task at hand is substantial and may extend to future generations. Yet, our duty is to minimize this burden for our children and grandchildren, ensuring they live in a peaceful and secure country. Humanitarian demining embodies a crucial mission."
