UDS implements a responsible and structured approach to conducting a non-technical survey (NTS) of areas that may potentially be contaminated with explosive ordnance.
3 non-technical survey groups have been created in UDS. Each of the groups has a Toyota Hilux car, Valon and Trembita mine detectors, and a DJI Mavic 3E Enterprise drone.
NTS is a key stage in humanitarian demining. This is the first step towards the liberation of Ukrainian lands from explosive remnants of war. This is a very responsible mission because the further effective work of sappers depends on NTS specialists.
The main purpose of the NTS is to provide recommendations for the planning of subsequent clearance operations or their removal from the list of potentially hazardous areas or suspected hazardous areas (NTS).
As part of the NTS, our actions include:● Assessment of the danger of the presence of a residence permit in certain territories;● Removal of territories from the register of contaminated or probably contaminated areas where there is no longer a risk of mines and explosive remnants of war;● Identification of socio-economic factors and other factors that may affect the prioritization of further actions.Based on the information collected, our tasks are also to:● Classification of territories by hazard status;● Defining and marking the boundaries of dangerous areas;● Collection of information on incidents and accidents in the territory where the NTS is carried out;● Development of strategies for effective clean-up of areas contaminated with EO.During NTS, we avoid the practical use of demining equipment and direct entry into dangerous areas, but if necessary, we use demining equipment to establish safe access routes to the area to be surveyed.
