UDS Participated in the Round Table “SAFE DISTANCE”
The event was organized by the Main Department of Mine Action, Civil Protection and Environmental Safety of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Representing UDS at the round table were Serhii Tsykeniuk, Head of the Humanitarian Demining Department of UDS “Center”, and Oleksii Voitsekhovskyi, Specialist in Pilot Operation of Machines and Mechanisms.
The purpose of the event was to harmonize approaches to the use of remote detection systems in non-technical survey (NTS) and technical survey (TS) processes, define critical evaluation parameters, outline the scope of application and responsibility, and develop a foundation for future methodological recommendations and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
The round table was held in a hybrid format (offline/online) with a teleconference link to Kharkiv. The discussions were structured around the analysis of practical cases within the framework of mine action procedures — without showcasing specific technologies or comparing manufacturers.
During the panel discussions, participants addressed:
▪️ the evidentiary value of remote detection data in NTS;
▪️ the threshold for transition from NTS to TS;
▪️ practical technical limitations of remote systems, taking into account operators’ experience in contaminated areas;
▪️ requirements for recording parameters in protocols.
Particular attention was given to the practical “field perspective” during the live connection with Kharkiv, where real operational challenges in contaminated areas were highlighted.
Participation in such professional discussions is part of UDS’s contribution to the development of harmonized, safe, and effective approaches in the field of humanitarian demining.
We thank the organizers for the invitation.
