UDS has received a certificate of compliance for "Non-Technical Survey."
Humanitarian demining.
Unfortunately, due to the war initiated by Russia, which is destined to lose, another generation of Ukrainians will hear this term and know the consequences of war.
Mines, unexploded ordnance, improvised explosive devices—9 years of war, and currently, approximately 30% of our country's territory is contaminated with explosive remnants of war.
Experts say that complete clearance of our territories will take several centuries. But, of course, we don't have that much time. Therefore, the ambitious goal of the state is to bring back to life 80% of all contaminated territories within the next 10 years.
Everyone must contribute to the victory and restoration of our country. Humanitarian demining is a global and complex challenge that will determine Ukraine's post-war development. Successful humanitarian demining is essentially creating conditions for the restoration of infrastructure in the de-occupied territories of our country, fostering the further development of Ukraine.
That's why UDS is preparing its team at the highest level.
Just days ago, we successfully completed the certification of a series of processes in accordance with DSTU 8820:2023 "Humanitarian Demining. Management Processes. Basic Provisions."
Today, we would like to talk about one of them—non-technical survey.
NTS is a key stage of humanitarian demining. It is the first step in liberating Ukrainian lands from explosive remnants of war. Therefore, the skills and abilities of non-technical survey specialists must meet all standards. This is a very responsible mission because the effective work of sappers depends on them.
Currently, three UDS non-technical survey groups are ready to perform tasks in southern Ukraine. NTS groups are the first to enter the liberated territories of Ukraine for surveying. That is why all UDS groups consist exclusively of employees who, as a result of selection, meet strict health requirements, have undergone specialized training, training, and received a certificate for the right to professional activities. During non-technical survey activities, UDS groups use only modern high-tech tools, equipment, and transport, such as off-road vehicles TOYOTA HILUX, minibusses VOLKSWAGEN TRANSPORTER T5; GPS navigation equipment GARMIN; STARLINK; UAV DJI MAVIC 3, and so on.
If we delve deeper into the process, within NTS, we perform the following activities:
- collection of direct and circumstantial evidence of explosive hazards on the territory and its classification by danger status;
- establishment of the boundaries of the hazardous area, its marking, and transfer of the established marking systems to local executive authorities for further maintenance;
- compilation of a map of the hazardous area and preparation of reporting materials for entering the results of practical research into the Information Management System in Humanitarian Mine Action;
- clarification of data on the territory previously classified as potentially or confirmed hazardous for its change (confirmation) or decision on its exclusion (unlocking) by non-technical survey;
- preparation of proposals for making decisions on determining the priority of unblocking the territory classified as potentially or confirmed hazardous;
- provision of other information that can be used for planning and during the territory unblocking.
As a result of NTS conducted by our groups, territories or their parts previously classified as hazardous can be completely or partially removed/unlocked from the hazardous category.
After completing the first stage of humanitarian demining—NTS, UDS demining groups prepare and move on to the next stage—technical survey. We will tell you about it soon.
To be continued.
