UDS Donated Safe War Remnants as Scrap Metal to a Military Unit of the Ministry of Defense Free of Charge

UDS Donated Safe War Remnants as Scrap Metal to a Military Unit of the Ministry of Defense Free of Charge

When UDS carries out field clearance under a state contract, all metal objects that trigger a metal detector are removed.

Very often during demining, remnants of past agricultural activity are encountered—such as metal parts from farming equipment or other household metal items.

In addition, some residual fragments may also be left behind by the demining machine itself. Our Bozena machine, which grinds, destroys, and neutralizes explosive objects externally, can leave behind shrapnel—all of which must be removed from the soil by the mine action operator.

As a result, dozens or even hundreds of kilograms of such scrap metal accumulate per hectare.

UDS collected approximately 2,800 kg.

🔺 About the procedure: All scrap metal collected by UDS deminers is first inspected for explosive hazards by UDS specialists certified for such activities. After the safety assessment, a certificate of safety is issued, and the remnants are donated—free of charge—for disposal to a designated military unit under the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

‼️ This procedure has only recently been established. Previously, such remnants were often left in forest strips.

Thanks to UDS’s initiative, there is now a clear and safe protocol for disposal.
