UDS deminers detect 3B30 cluster munitions at a site in Chornobaivka
During land clearance operations in the Chornobaivka hromada of Kherson Oblast, deminers from the UDS "South" Humanitarian Demining Department discovered 11 3B30 cluster submunitions.
The primary hazard of this unexploded ordnance (UXO) lies in its high failure rate: after the cluster dispenses, a significant portion of the submunitions fail to detonate immediately, effectively turning into highly dangerous landmines.
"All identified UXO will be marked and transferred for disposal," noted Artem Dudliak, Head of the UDS "South" Humanitarian Demining Department.
Overall, in addition to the 3B30 DPICM submunitions, the site poses potential threats from 30 mm artillery shells, F-1 hand grenades, 9N235 cluster submunitions, AR-5 fuses, 125 mm HE-FRAG tank rounds, 9M133 "Kornet" ATGMs, S-5KO unguided aircraft rockets, and other explosive ordnance.
Clearance of the 606-hectare area is commissioned by the Humanitarian Demining Center. Ground preparation is currently underway, utilizing two Germina demining machines, a Bozena 5+, and a "Zmiy" system.
