UDS Conducts Field Trials of Finnish Radiation Detection Devices

The UDS Research and Experimental Operations Department has begun testing portable radiological monitoring devices manufactured by the Finnish company Sensinite Ltd. The international partner approached UDS and commissioned the testing on a commercial basis.

The specialists’ task is not merely to verify the functionality of the devices, but to comprehensively assess their practical suitability, ease of use, and specific application in real-world humanitarian demining operations in Ukraine.

Experimental operation is an important stage in the evaluation and improvement of any technical product before its launch into serial production. UDS has extensive experience conducting such trials for Ukrainian manufacturers. The company’s specialists have worked with Trembita metal detectors, “Zmiy” ground robotic systems, and Germina demining machines manufactured by KZVV. Based on UDS expert reports and recommendations, the developers significantly improved the designs and individual technical solutions of these products. Today, UDS is expanding these services to international partners as well.

Sensinite Ltd provided UDS with the required number of devices for testing, after which they were distributed among several UDS departments operating in different regions of Ukraine. This enables comprehensive testing and assessment of the equipment under various conditions, across different demining processes, and in diverse types of terrain.

“The particular value of such testing lies in the fact that the evaluation is carried out by specialists who directly use technical equipment while performing demining tasks. For UDS, this is also of practical interest. We have several demining teams that will be involved in operations in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, where radiological monitoring is critically important,” said Oleksii Voitsekhovskyi, UDS Specialist in Experimental Operation of Machines and Mechanisms.

Upon completion of the trials, Sensinite Ltd will receive a detailed report containing test results, observations, practical recommendations regarding usability in mine action, and technical information to support the further improvement of the devices.

UDS provides experimental operation and practical evaluation services for humanitarian demining equipment to Ukrainian and international manufacturers and developers seeking professional feedback before large-scale deployment or the launch of a product into serial production.

It should be recalled that in July, representatives of UDS held a working meeting with Sensinite, a Finnish developer of radiation detection systems based on CERN technologies. The company’s devices can be integrated into protective equipment or CBRN clothing, detect gamma radiation in real time, transmit dosimetry data via NFC, and feature an IP68 protection rating. The parties agreed to cooperate and conduct field trials of the equipment in different regions of Ukraine.
