UDS Chose Best Metal Detector: Testing Minelab vs. Trembita
We are constantly developing and strengthening our capabilities. This applies to both new training in the field of humanitarian demining and advanced training of UDS sappers, as well as technical equipment.
πΊTo complete 9 mechanical demining groups, we need metal detectors. Best!
We were faced with a choice between the Australian Minelab and the Ukrainian Trembita.
To choose the best of the best, we decided to conduct testing: we formed a commission consisting of representatives of the State Emergency Service, UDS sappers, and specialists in the operation of metal detectors.
They tested metal detectors and conducted various tests by the table of technical requirements for humanitarian demining tasks (https://dsns.gov.ua/upload/1/9/5/8/1/8/5/orijentovni-texnicni-vimogi-do-metalosukaciv-metalodetektoriv-dlia-vikonannia-zavdan-gumanitarnogo.pdf).
π During the test, it was found that both metal detectors meet most of the requirements for a sensitivity profile, but the Trembita metal detector performed better when operating under the influence of electromagnetic/high-frequency interference (operation under power lines), has an appropriate level of moisture resistance IP 68 (Minelab F3L - IP 67), is lighter than the competitor (2.4 vs 3.2 kg with a requirement of 2.6 kg), longer battery life, longer warranty period (36 months vs. 15).
β As for the comparison of additional characteristics, functions, and advantages, it was determined that the Trembita metal detector has a much shorter minimum working length, the presence of vibration mode, the presence of visual identification using an LED display (pinpoint function, metal discrimination), and has a much more compact size during transportation.
πΊπ¦ Another extremely important factor was that Trembita is a Ukrainian brand, and this, in addition to the patriotic component, means the availability of prompt service in Ukraine, the possibility of upgrading already purchased devices and participating in the improvement of the domestic product by providing feedback to the manufacturer.
