The Center for Humanitarian Demining established by the Government started to work

The Center for Humanitarian Demining established by the Government has become operational in Ukraine.

The functions of the Center were determined by the Government last autumn. These include: collection and analysis of information, strategic planning, process coordination and international cooperation in the field of humanitarian demining.

The head of the Center was chosen in a competition that lasted several months and was appointed only in May 2024. Volodymyr Baida became the head of the Center.

The other day, Volodymyr Baida, together with other employees of the Center, visited a contaminated site in the Mykolaiv region, which is demined by UDS. UDS managers familiarized themselves with the processes of mechanical and manual demining, and also discussed the main problematic issues in the field of humanitarian demining.

The UDS leadership provided proposals for solving the main problems: this concerns both technical issues and procedures and issues of launching the humanitarian demining market.

"Last fall, the Government called on businesses to pay attention to the humanitarian demining market. It was announced that the market entry procedure would be simplified. Allocation of budget funds for humanitarian demining was also announced.

UDS and 17 other operators responded to the Government's request, went through the certification procedure, invested in the purchase of equipment, training of sappers, coordination of teams and the latest technologies. Currently, there are operators of anti-mine activities in Ukraine, who are able to quickly and efficiently clean our land from the dirt of war.

At the same time, none of the operators has orders for demining as of today. There is a need for demining, there are many beneficiaries of such demining, there are operators, there is equipment, money is allocated. Now all this needs to be moderated in a transparent and efficient way in order to finally launch the market," said Deputy General Director of UDS Volodymyr Beshlei.

Volodymyr Baida, head of the Center for Humanitarian Demining, emphasized that his team is focused on the result:

"Our actions will be transparent, fast and effective. We are already working on organizing the first trades in the Prozzoro system," Volodymyr emphasized.

The demining center plays an important role in the implementation of the program to compensate farmers for demining agricultural land. It is in it that requests from farmers will be processed and procurements for services for demining rural lands will be announced.
