Strengthening the expertise of the UDS team: GICHD mine action training successfully completed

Representatives of UDS have successfully completed the Land Release in Mine Action training course and received certificates confirming the successful completion of the programme.

The training took place from 15 to 25 June 2026 and was organised and delivered by the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD).

Land Release is a key component of humanitarian mine action that involves the systematic process of releasing suspected or hazardous land for safe use and returning it to productive purposes. The training programme covered all elements of the Land Release process, including Non-Technical Survey (NTS), Technical Survey (TS), clearance, and the formal handover of cleared land.

The course combined both theoretical and practical components, including classroom sessions and field exercises, and was based on the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) and international best practices.

We sincerely thank the experts of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining for the opportunity to participate in this training and for the valuable knowledge and experience that our team is already applying in its daily operations.

About GICHD

The Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) works to reduce the risks that explosive ordnance poses to communities, with a particular focus on landmines, cluster munitions, other explosive remnants of war (ERW), and ammunition stockpiles.

The Centre supports the development and professionalisation of the mine action sector for the benefit of its partners, including national and local authorities, donors, the United Nations, international and regional organisations, non-governmental organisations, commercial companies, and the research community.

GICHD delivers this support through three complementary areas of work: field support, focused on capacity development and technical advice; multilateral engagement, focused on norms and standards; and research and development, focused on advancing innovative solutions for the mine action sector.
