Kyiv Region: UDS deminers discover World War II ordnance

On the land of STOV “Derenkivets” in the Borodianka territorial community, Bucha district, Kyiv region, UDS deminers discovered a 152 mm high-explosive artillery shell dating back to World War II.

The ordnance was located at a depth of approximately 50 cm.

This is not the first case where UDS deminers have encountered World War II explosive remnants during operations in the Kyiv region.

In addition, remnants of a “Uragan” multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) — already from the modern phase of the Russia–Ukraine war — were also identified at the site.

All explosive ordnance was safely removed by specialists of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) in accordance with established procedures.

As a reminder, in January 2026, commissioned by the Center for Humanitarian Demining, UDS began clearance operations on more than 500 hectares of land belonging to STOV “Derenkivets”.

Demining activities are carried out using the following methods and processes:

🔹 Mechanical clearance — using Bozena 5+ systems and the “Zmii” ground clearance system; 🔹 Technical survey — applying BAC (Battle Area Clearance) methods in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures and national standards.

We bring contaminated land back to life. 🌱
