Japanese technologies in humanitarian demining: UDS expand cooperation in implementing innovative solutions
Representatives of the Japanese company IOS Inc., which specializes in developing advanced demining technologies, approached UDS with a proposal to present their solution — the DMRobot demining system.
As part of the ongoing dialogue, a meeting was held with the participation of Serhii Nerpii, Head of International Cooperation at UDS.
From the Japanese side, the discussion included:
— Kentaro Imai, CEO of IOS Inc.
— Kenji Tajima, Senior Consultant, Social Development and Peacebuilding Department (Koei Research & Consulting Inc., ID&E Group)
In addition, UDS Technical Director Eduard Drach and Head of the Mechanized Demining Department Ihor Hushel recently ознакомилися with the equipment in field conditions, assessing its capabilities and technical specifications.
The DMRobot technology is based on the use of compressed air, enabling safe soil excavation and removal of explosive ordnance without detonation. This approach significantly reduces risks for deminers and creates new opportunities for operations in complex environments.
The solution has already proven its effectiveness internationally, including in Cambodia. Moreover, several units have already been delivered for use in Ukraine.
Currently, with the support of UNIDO and in cooperation with UADamage, a feasibility study is underway to assess the potential application of this technology in Ukraine.
UDS continue to actively integrate modern technologies into their operations. The company utilizes mechanized demining systems, including Bozena 5+ and Bozena 4+ machines manufactured in Slovakia. Among Ukrainian solutions are GERMINA machines, the “Zmiі” ground clearance system, as well as Trembita metal detectors.
