Humanitarian Demining of Agricultural Land Ongoing in Kharkiv Region

Since April, a dedicated unit of UDS — the Eastern Humanitarian Demining Department — has been deployed in Kharkiv Region. This unit is tasked with conducting demining operations not only in Kharkiv, but also in Sumy and Donetsk regions.

The operations are carried out under the framework of the State Program for Reimbursement of Humanitarian Demining Costs, commissioned by the Humanitarian Demining Center.

The project is supervised by Ihor Paralush. A total of 31 deminers have been involved in the operation.

The surveyed area includes various types of explosive threats, such as:

  1. PFM-1 (butterfly) anti-personnel blast mines
  2. TM-62 anti-tank mines
  3. remnants of a "Uragan" multiple rocket launcher system
  4. evidence of 9N210 cluster submunitions

📍 The area under operation covers 54 hectares and is under the management of the agricultural enterprise “Barvinok”.

The following humanitarian demining methods are being used:

  1. Mechanized demining using specialized equipment
  2. Manual demining
  3. Battle Area Clearance (BAC)

The demining operation is expected to be completed by the end of April 2025.
