Demining of 606 hectares of high-value agricultural land begins in Chornobaivka

Following the issuance of a work order by the Mine Action Center, clearance operations have commenced at a large site in the Chornobaivka Territorial Community, Kherson District, Kherson Region.

The operations are being carried out by the UDS South Humanitarian Demining Department.

The project also involves a subcontractor, Global Clearance Solutions Ukraine.

The client is the Humanitarian Demining Center.

The site is contaminated with a wide range of explosive hazards, including KOBE-ZB30 cluster munitions, 30 mm artillery projectiles, F-1 hand grenades, 9N235 submunitions, AR-5 fuzes, 125 mm high-explosive tank projectiles, 9M133 Kornet anti-tank guided missiles, S-5KO unguided aircraft rockets (NURS), and other explosive ordnance. Numerous military engineering structures—including trenches, bunkers, and revetments—as well as extensive evidence of combat, such as artillery craters of various calibers, have also been identified across the site.

The work is being conducted in accordance with the DSTU 8820 series of National Mine Action Standards and approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The scope of work includes Technical Survey (TS), mechanical demining using machines and equipment, and Battle Area Clearance (BAC).

“We plan to complete the full clearance of the site by the end of September,” said Artem Duduliak, Head of the UDS South Humanitarian Demining Department.
