Clearing 754.8 hectares of reserve land of the Snihurivka Territorial Community
UDS has launched humanitarian demining operations on the reserve lands of the Snihurivka Territorial Community in the Bashtanka District, Mykolaiv Region. The total area to be cleared is 754.8073 hectares.
Approximately 100 UDS demining specialists are involved in the operation, including the UDS Humanitarian Demining Departments “South” and “East,” the Special Operations Department, and the Mechanized Demining Department. The works involve three Bozena 5+ and one Germina.
The clearance of 754.8 hectares is being carried out under the directive of the Mine Action Center.
Demining operations are conducted using technical survey methods combined with battle area clearance (BAC), mechanical demining, and manual demining, in accordance with the National Standards DSTU 8820. Site Manager: Artem Duduliak.
Unlike typical agricultural land, the area features a complex terrain including water bodies, dense vegetation, shelterbelts, and built-up zones, which significantly complicates the demining process. Nevertheless, these efforts are essential to bring war-contaminated land back to life.
The site is contaminated with 9N210 cluster munitions, unexploded 152 mm artillery shells (Category II), and other explosive remnants of war (ERW).
In just the first five days of operations, 752 excavations of explosive hazards were carried out.
💬 “Demining reserve lands brings the community closer to full clearance from the explosive remnants of war. It is especially important that these areas are located directly next to residential zones, which is why they must be cleared as quickly as possible to prevent risks to civilians,” — Eduard Drach, Technical Director of UDS.
