Cleaning up the war-torn agricultural land of the Potato Institute
This time, we are focusing on 434.6 hectares of agricultural land classified as "particularly valuable" and belonging to the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine's Potato Institute. The land is located in the village of Kozyntsi, Kyiv region. It is state-owned.
Since early March 2022, active hostilities have been taking place in this area with the enemy army. The area was subjected to shelling from mortars, artillery, and multiple launch rocket systems and was eventually occupied by the Russians in mid-March. Enemy positions, including trenches, tanks, and Grad multiple launch rocket systems, were located in the forest plantations.
As a result of the non-technical survey, this area was identified as a minefield (direct and indirect evidence was found). During the survey using UAVs, a large number of unexploded ordnance of the second category was found. The non-technical survey was conducted by the international company Halo Trust and the national demining operator UDS.
The head of the works is Bogdan Podgorny. 18 sappers and one medic are involved in the demining. Two Bozena 5+ remote-controlled mine clearance vehicles are operating on the site. The methods used include manual demining, ORBVD, and machine-based demining.
We plan to complete the clearance work by February 24, 2025.
Returning war-torn land to life!
