At the Environmental Roundtable, the Irreplaceability of Demining Machines Was Highlighted
Recently, a roundtable on the topic "Environmental Aspects of Demining: Challenges and Solutions" took place, where important environmental and climate challenges arising during demining activities were discussed.
During the event, it was emphasized that the use of remote-controlled demining machines is the most effective and safest method for clearing areas, especially agricultural land, from mines and unexploded ordnance. This ensures the safety of both sappers and the surrounding environment.
The roundtable was organized by the Main Directorate for Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine with the support of OSCE Projects in Ukraine.
From UDS, the event was attended by UDS Director of Economics Oleksandr Romaniuk and UDS Specialist in Environmental Safety of Demining Andriy Lukianchenko.
Among the speakers were representatives from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Environmental Protection, State Environmental Inspection, Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), UNDP, OSCE, Ukrainian Research Institute for Environmental Problems, and others.
During the discussion, issues related to environmental pollution due to military actions, risks to the surrounding natural environment during demining operations, and the importance of integrating environmental and climate aspects into the mine action system were also raised.
πΊπ¦ UDS is actively working on implementing technologies that meet the highest environmental standards. We are certified under the environmental management system ISO 14001:2015 (ISO 14001:2015, IDT).
πΊπ¦ To date, the company uses 7 remote-controlled demining machines, 5 of which are of Slovak manufacture and 2 are of domestic production.
We are restoring war-polluted lands to life!
