252 ha of the "Savanna" agricultural firm will be cleared of mines by UDS by the end of the year
Several UDS humanitarian demining teams are operating on the territory of the "Savanna" farm, which covers a total area of 251.6 hectares. The demining process is carried out using remote-controlled Bozena machines. Two such machines are being used at the site. The work is supervised by Igor Gushel.
"After our machines have completed their work, sappers with metal detectors always check the area and excavate all suspicious signals. The machines make our work much safer, faster, and more efficient. In one shift, one machine can cover 2 hectares," noted Igor Gushel, the head of operations.
The farm's territory is contaminated with unexploded ordnance of the second category, as well as anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, cluster munitions, and improvised explosive devices.
"The first stage of demining directly on site is the technical survey process. For this purpose, we cut paths and conduct inspections using metal detectors. During the technical survey, we specify the types of threats, which subsequently affects the demining operation plan. All our processes comply with state and international IMAS standards," emphasized Eduard Drach, UDS Technical Director.
As a reminder, UDS previously conducted a free non-technical survey of 349 hectares of land belonging to the "Savanna" farm as part of a cooperation with the Snigurivka City Council, and is currently carrying out demining under a government tender.
