We are summarizing the results of UDS's humanitarian demining efforts in Mykolaiv region in 2024.
"UDS continues to implement the Memorandum of Cooperation on demining activities in Mykolaiv region, signed in early 2024 with the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration. In 2024, UDS fully fulfilled all obligations under Article 7 of this Memorandum and continues to carry out demining tasks in Mykolaiv region within the framework of business cooperation," said Volodymyr Beshley, Deputy General Director of UDS.
As a result, in early 2024, the Southern base of UDS was established and is operating in Snigurivka, Bashtansky district. Four BOZENA 5+ demining systems were delivered to Mykolaiv region for group coordination and subsequent demining operations.
Throughout 2024, five demonstration events were held in Mykolaiv region, attended by representatives of the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Defense, local government, certification and inspection bodies for demining activities, international donor organizations, farming and forestry enterprises, and the media.
Memoranda of cooperation were signed with the Bashtansky District Military Administration, Mykolaiv District Military Administration, Snigurivska City Military Administration, and the Bereznehuvate Settlement Council of the Bashtansky District of Mykolaiv Region.
Throughout the year, 11 sessions were conducted to inform the public about the risks associated with mines and unexploded ordnance, attended by 244 people. Approximately 2,063 hectares of territory in Mykolaiv region were subject to non-technical surveys. As a result of the non-technical survey:
- 289.6 hectares were excluded from the territory (no evidence of UXO was found);
- 1,773.4 hectares were identified as contaminated or potentially contaminated. 160 hectares were demined using BOZENA demining machines.
Among the recipients of demining services were 17 enterprises, institutions, and individual entrepreneurs in Mykolaiv region.
In 2024, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine launched a state program of compensation for humanitarian demining of agricultural land. Within the framework of this program, UDS has signed six contracts with agricultural producers in Mykolaiv region. One of them has already been completed, and five more contracts for demining 534.5 hectares of agricultural land will be completed in early 2025.
UDS plans for 2025 include continuing demining activities in Mykolaiv region, including conducting non-technical surveys of agricultural land to enable farmers to participate in the state compensation program.
We thank the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration for fruitful cooperation!
